ASEAN Chair Encourages City Governor Delegations to Continue Promoting Green Development

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has encouraged ASEAN delegates to continue increasing cooperation in order to promote the development of capitals to be smart, green and to serve sustainable development, especially for the well-being of the people.

Addressing the Delegates of ASEAN Capital Governors at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh on Friday morning, 2 December 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen highlighted the importance of cooperation between ASEAN capitals and cities in the ASEAN region to progress and develop all into smart cities.

The representative of the ASEAN Governors of capitals and cities and Governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, pledged to support and increase cooperation between capitals and cities to serve economic and social development, as well as the health of the people who live in cities in the ASEAN region.

This meeting was held before the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Mayors Forum and the ASEAN Capital and City Governors' Meeting, which was hosted in Phnom Penh.

According to the Prime Minister's assistant, Eang Sophalleth, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt congratulated Prime Minister Hun Sen for leading the rapid development of Cambodia, successfully preventing the spread of Covid-19 in the country, as well as successfully organizing and chairing the ASEAN Summit and related summits this year.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Sen also informed the attending delegation about the history of Phnom Penh. In 1979, the Prime Minister only met 70 people, but through open and in-depth development, Phnom Penh has increased in size from 300 square kilometers to 700 square kilometers, and with construction on every 2,000 square meters per 1 hectare to 50,000 square meters per hectare.
